A "snapshot" of MMC:

Vision: sharing and caring with those in need.

Mission: relieve suffering and improve quality of life through the direct provision of supplies, education and services to medical facilities and schools for overlooked and impoverished areas of the world.

Shared values: cost effectiveness, respect for human diversity, a non-political and non-denominational stance, and volunteerism.

Objectives and goals: currently, we provide direct on-site support for health projects in Ukraine and along the Thai-Burma and India-Burma borders. In Canada we raise funds, and awareness about the issues affecting Burmese refugees and impoverished Ukrainian villagers.

Thank-you for visiting!

Medical Mercy Canada (MMC) is a non-religious, registered Canadian volunteer organization which provides unconditional help to impoverished persons in Ukraine and on the Burmese borders. Since 1991 Dr. Myron and Elaine Semkuley have led volunteers on annual trips to Ukraine each summer and to the borders of Burma each winter, providing medical assistance, instruction, and donated supplies, as well as funds and follow-up for small-scale building and hygiene projects. Tell your friends!

Here's Elsie's report:

Hi Everyone,  Thought you might enjoy some photos from my exciting 75th Birthday Party!  Certainly a memorable event to bring 2009 to a climax!  Not sure if we raised $1000 for each year of my life for the Kanti Children's Hospital Blood Bank but donations are still coming in, so hopefully we will meet our goals over the coming weeks.  The 23 day trek was a great experience - even the very tough days when I had moments that I questioned my sanity - but I did it with some help and encouragement from some great traveling companions.  We hiked from the "old" trailhead at Jiri all the way to Everest rather than flying into Lukla as most trekkers do these days.  Our Group of 7 ranged in age from 17 to 75 and we all got to the party on time! The weather gods smiled on us with lots of blue, blue skies and wonderful sunshine right up to the day of my birthday when we had some wind, a few flakes of snow and cold.... but by that time we were tough and real survivors.  I wonder what I can dream up for my 80th and who will want to come - start signing up now, there is bound to be a rush and I'd hate to see you disappointed!

A very merry Christmas to you from our house to yours and many, many wonderful blessings of good health and happiness in 2010.  (Can't believe it is a decade since everyone was concerned about the arrival of the Millenium - can you?)  Much love, Elsie
