The 2008 Medical Mercy Canada UkrAsian Dinner set record numbers.

Record Numbers Reached at Annual Medical Mercy Canada Fundraiser

The 11th annual Medical Mercy Canada Ukrasian dinner turned out to be a huge success, with a record crowd of almost 400 attending.  Funds raised will be utilized in the ongoing charity efforts of Medical Mercy Canada to help Burmese refugees in Thailand and India, and impoverished Nepalese and Western Ukraine villagers. Those efforts include establishing and renovating facilities, buying much needed medicine, medical instruments, equipment and supplies, and increasing medical and health education training.

The Cowboy Poet, Doris Daley, MC’d the event, entertaining the crowd with her own special brand of poetry.

A big hit was the Heads or Tails fundraiser conducted by Joanne Neweduk , with the final coming down to two ladies, one of whom walked away with the prize. Everyone really seemed to enjoy the entertaining event, as it was quite humourous to see people from all walks of life holding their hands on their rears or the tops of their heads.

Dr. Myron Semkuley delivered a presentation with a twist this year, honoring many of the “heroes “who work selflessly in India, Myanmar, Nepal and the Ukraine. Dr Ray Comeau also delivered an impassioned speech about the dire situation in Myanmar, formerly Burma.

The Ukrainian dance troupe Tryzub was stellar as usual, dancing up a high-speed storm to lively Ukrainian music.

Another record was established as almost 40 Physicians Travel Packs were donated. The Silent Auction contributed again this year, to the tune of over 18,000 dollars. All in all, it was a very successful evening, with almost 100,000 dollars raised for a great cause.
