India - Burma Border
After several years of organizing and planning, construction was finally begun on the Zokhawthar Medical Mercy Medical Centre in the village of Zokhawthar on the India-Burma border in Mizoram State, India.
MMC is financing the total cost of this centre, and also operating costs for the first several years. Monitoring the operation of this centre is done by regular correspondence between ZMM and MMC, and at least one or more visits by MMC foreign mission volunteers and Area manager every year.
The main reason for this medical centre right on the border is to provide free and relatively easily accessible medical care to the desperately poor Burmese people still inside Burma, and to the refugees fleeing into India from the oppression of the military regime inside Burma.
Anyone of any nationality, ethnic group, religion or political persuasion, who requires medical assistance, is provided with care within the ability of the centre.

Partnerships
MMC approached another Alberta NGO, “A BETTER WORLD” (ABW) for assistance in the construction of the ZMM Medical Centre. After meetings in 2008, MMC and ABW agreed to join forces in this project that began in late 2008. MMC is funding the project. ABW assisted in drawing up the plans and has been closely monitoring the construction by frequent visits to the site. ABW has many years of experience in doing this type of work and is a tremendous partner in providing guidance to ensure that the project is successful.
This is the first time MMC has partnered with another NGO on a capital project and it has been a very pleasant and successful partnering. This helps to ensure that all of our donors’ funds are being used as effectively and efficiently as possible.
