Sri Lanka
The first visit by an MMC team was to Sri Lanka. This year, four people went. MMC had been requested by a Calgary businessman to visit and provide some medical aid to the people who lived in areas no longer controlled by the Tamil Tigers. We met the Commander of the Sri Lankan army. His soldiers escorted us deep into the Tamil area where it appeared that there had been no medical care, education, industry or agriculture for those people for many years.
Now, under the protection of the Sri Lankan army, we were privileged to be some of the first foreigners to bring humanitarian aid to those poor people. We felt that it was a great honor and were deeply humbled by it. More doctors, nurses, teachers, farmers and builders are needed on our team there. The Calgary businessman financed this entire Sri Lanka project and has offered to continue funding more MMC humanitarian work in Sri Lanka.
