Making a Difference

December 10, 2016
It is easy to forget how one person can make a difference in the world. Sometimes it is not through major effort but just the simple everyday acts of kindness that can change another person`s world.

When Kim Brundrit and her family were volunteering in the Havilla Children`s Center, Kim asked the teacher if she could take some of the weaker children aside and spend a little bit of time with them each day to see if she could help them in any way. The teacher immediately pointed to a child and told her that he couldn`t read so he was unable to keep up with the class and would likely be sent down a level. He sat at the back of the class room and Kim quickly realised that he couldn`t see the board at all. Kim spent time with him, patiently listening to his reading and helping him.  After a few weeks, he was understanding the rules about reading English, and quickly he was almost reading at grade level.  He was moved to the front of the class where he could see a bit better and began to keep up to the rest of the class.
Sometimes it is just the simple things that make a difference.

Taking time out from a busy life and focusing on what is important.

Understanding and living by your values.

Being open to new experiences.

Helping others.

Letting people know that they are important, no matter where they live or what thier situation is.
