Myanmar is a resource-rich country that nonetheless continues to suffer from pervasive government controls, inefficient economic policies, corruption, and rural poverty. From 1962 to 2011, the country was ruled by an extremely oppressive military junta. Although this military junta has been replaced by a civilian government, major problems and conflict persist. As a result, there are masses of uprooted Myanmars people fleeing into Thailand and India. Most of them lack fundamental human rights, protection, education, and healthcare.
