At our Medical Mercy Canada clinic in Champhai we met a very interesting young man. In the picture is Nunu who is a nurses aid at our MMC Champhai Clinic. Her husband is Job, who is a Burma Free Ranger. The Burma Free Rangers are a group of trained medics who go into Burma as teams to provide medical aid and education to the oppressed ethnic groups in this incredibly poor country. These young men have been trained by people like MMC’s Myron Semkuley at the ‘backpack seminars’ he conducts on the Thailand/Myanmar border. Job’s insights into how terribly slow, real, and effective change is coming in Myanmar despite the Western Worlds impressions were enlightening. Genocide, oppression, rape, burning of villages, and murder are still occurring in many areas of Myanmar and he is witnessing the aftermath of these events and caring for those that are being adversely affected by these atrocities. Brenda and I met this brave young man on the first day of our field work and he provided us with a renewed sense of inspiration, purpose, and commitment to help these Chin people who still need the care of MMC at our border clinics. I urge you to Google ‘Burma Free Rangers’ to read more about the work these young men do. Nunu is a talented nurses aid who does great work at our clinic to help her people. These two young people are true real life heroes. The 3 year old is their younger child, and has an older brother who was in school.
